The Russian Toy is a tiny, square companion dog with a high-set head, large dark eyes, and either a smooth coat or a long coat with feathered ears. The ears are large and erect.

The Russian Toy, or Russkiy Toy, is a small companion breed developed in Russia from English Toy Terrier stock. Smooth and long-coated varieties are the same breed. The AKC lists it in FSS; the UKC classes it as a Companion Dog.

Temperament

These little dogs are typically alert, attached to their people, and surprisingly bold. They can be vocal and do not always enjoy rough play. They feel the cold.

Training

They learn household manners if training stays gentle. Keep sessions short.

Care and grooming

Smooth coats need a wipe; long coats need regular combing of the ear fringes. Use a harness.

Low.

Health

As with other tiny breeds, patellar luxation and dental crowding are concerns. Keep the dog lean.
